Herath

Ruler: Lord-General Cameron i'Gerard

Style of Government: Herath has a structure of nobility that forms a general council, but they merely serve as advisors. The main authority rests in the hands of the military.

Capital: Rulisu

Major Cities: Waiban, Cristan Webbe

Culture: Herath is a very disciplined police state, with the military having seized control from the nobility roughly 60 years ago during extreme civil unrest. Feuds often errupt between warring members of the nobility, many who chafe at the military's usurpation of power. However, crime rates have dropped remarkably since their ascension, and, apart from the occasional feud or uprising, Herath is a fairly safe place to live.

The system for naming in Herath is very structured, in order to make the child's parentage readily apparent. The child receives a given name, and the names of the parent(s) are added on as surnames with suffixes to indicate gender. Thus Magda, the child of Alara and Devon, would be formally named Magda a'Alara i'Devon. If there is only one parent of record (single parentage or contract birth) the child would bear only that one name. If the parents are married, it is common for the child to only bear the surname of the father.

Economy: The military is at the center of Herathi economy. Many people from other countries come to train with the army, and a standing arrangement exists with the Mercenary Guild. There are several iron mines in the southern part of the country, which is turned into some of the best weapons and armor outside of Lessia. Also, Herath turns out large amounts of wool, as most of her rolling hills are dotted with sheep.

Military: Herathi soldiers are some of the fiercest and most feared warriors in the Twelve Nations. Honed by putting down interior disputes, they are well trained, most famous for wild charges.

Notes: In times of peace, the Herathi military is responsible for the upkeep of the country's infrastructure, which is in remarkable condition.
