Lessia

Ruler: Naris Steelbones, the Stone King of Lessia

Style of Government: Dynastic monarchy, with nobility (thrains) to govern sub-regions.

Capital: Sannu

Major Cities: Mossu, Sihen

Culture: Dwarven culture is loosely patterned after Italian and Spanish culture. Good food is a cultural point of honor -- and the Dwarves of Lessia take honor very seriously. Family is also a strong concern. The Dwarves will remember favors -- as well as insults -- for a long time.

Economy: Primarily mining and artisan work. Some farming exists, though most food comes from herding (cattle and goats) or from trading. Dwarves have cultivated several types of edible mushrooms, as well as a remarkable variety of coffee. Dwarven wool is known to be of exceptional quality. Dwarves do extensive trading, and are considered to make the best weaponry and armor.

Military: Standing army, assisted by militia. Most dwarves serve in the militia at some point, and periodically continue their training. Lessia has no navy.

Notes: This information is severely dated, as the borders of Lessia have been closed for close to a century. There have been some minor excusions into Lessia, searching for reasons of the dwarves’ withdrawl, but so far, no adequate reason has been found. The close ties between the dwarven people and the mysterious fae have passed into legend along with the recipe for Dwarven Mead.
