Ruler: King Arelin Mewsani, the Council of Ten
Style of Government: Enlightened monarchy, with a titular king, but a council of 10 'advisors' which act as a congress for debating/passing laws, judgements, etc.
Capital: Satoga
Major Cities: Jeva, Teleut
Culture: Rakis is very much a melting pot country, with more of an immigrant population than a true native people. The people are much concerned with trade and farming, and organize around the towns, with the mayor representing them to the larger governing Council and King. The Council takes the concerns of each town very seriously, and pronounces fair judgement on all cases brought to their attention. They will even listen to a coherent merchant or farm worker who cares to make a case -- on days when business is light -- but they prefer that matters be solved at the local level whenever possible.
Economy: Primarily farming and trading. Virtually anything can be found in Rakis, for a price. The passes linking Rakis to the western part of the continent are much more passable than their northern counterparts, so large caravans tend to pass into Rakis, either to continue overland or head to sea from the Straight of Almeath. There is a large farming population, and some coffee bushes have been cultivated in the mountains of the southwest.
Military: Paid mercenaries and bodyguards surround the wealthier merchants, and will also hire out for military campaigns. At any rate, the military in Rakis is one of the highest paid in the Twelve Nations, which makes the parents of footloose young boys very happy indeed. In general, the military is hired or lured away from other countries -- while other countries train their youth to fight, Rakisi teach their children to barter.
Notes: Rakis is a more commercial sister country to Solari. Spying is also a major industry and beloved pastime for the people of Rakis. There is an incipient Guild forming in the capital city of Satoga, mostly so that the King can keep better track of the spies in the royal palace.
